Effective Monday, October 22, 2007, the Women’s Wellness Connection (WWC) statewide (866 692-2600) hotline calls and the Denver Metro area (303 692-2600) hotline calls will be retrieved by the American Cancer Society (ACS) Call Center. The new WWC hotline number will be:
866-951-WELL or 866-951-9355
The Women’s Wellness Connection has partnered with the American Cancer Society to respond to telephone inquiries from women requesting free breast and cervical cancer screening throughout Colorado. English and Spanish speaking ACS operators will use the WWC intake questionnaire to pre-interview women for WWC program services. This telephone line is exclusively designed and used for WWC callers. Women will be referred to a WWC provider close to the woman’s residence or another site convenient to her. ACS will not screen the women for WWC eligibility. ACS will forward copies of the intake forms to the referred provider sites twice a week.
During the past year and a half Colorado Women’s Cancer Control Initiative has contracted with Mile High United Way (MHUW) 2-1-1 to provide services responding to local calls and refer Denver metro area callers to WWC provider sites. Bev Reddick-Jenkins, Recruitment Coordinator, Denver Metro area and Pam Chavez, Community Coordinator provided similar services, retrieving and referring statewide hotline callers to WWC Providers or WWC Community Coordinators in Colorado. This referral strategy will not be used with the new ACS contract. ACS will be referring callers for screening directly to WWC providers.
