Dr. Amy Davis Awarded “Outstanding School Volunteer”
At the annual Mesa County Valley School District 51 “Community Partnership Luncheon” on September 14, 2009, Marillac Clinic was nominated in two categories – the dental program for Outstanding Community Partner nominated by Clifton Elementary School and Dr. Amy Davis for the Outstanding School Volunteer from Taylor Elementary School in Palisade.
Dr. Davis won the award in this category. Dr. Davis has been sharing her knowledge and expertise in science with the Taylor students for over 10 years. The hands-on learning students receive from her creates enthusiasm and develops students’ passion for scientific knowledge.
Dr. Davis coordinates several events including:
- nurses and doctors teaching the 5th graders human development
- the “Tar Wars” program
- 4th grade nutrition
- hygiene, and exercise programs
Dr. Davis is also involved in Marillac Clinic sponsored health fairs during parent/teacher conferences. Terri Smatla, Community Partnership Coordinator, thanked Dr. Davis for her commitment to the students and community of Taylor Elementary.
